Lawmaker disappointed over Asaba Airport

The chairman of Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Works, Evans Ivwurie, has expressed displeasure at the level of work at Asaba Airport.

His observation comes after 10 years of work on the project, said to have cost a whopping N27.2 billion.

Disappointed at the lack of critical infrastructure like perimeter fence and a proper runway, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority had, in May 2015, downgraded the airport, which was started by former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in 2008.

Ivwurie, who recently led the committee on a fact-finding tour, said in Asaba during the weekend that after thorough investigation, it was clear that the former contractor violated professional ethics in the construction of the airport, and that the government was determined to recover every single kobo that was misappropriated.

The lawmaker said it was disheartening that nothing was done by the contractor on the runway and taxiway, two very important projects that were supposed to be delivered four months after the N3 billion contract was signed.
