Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State yesterday barricaded the gate of Osun State Government House, Okefia, Osogbo in continuation of their protest over prolonged closure of their school.

The protesting students had left the Osun State government secretariat in Abere, Osogbo on Wednesday after they had waited for hours without being attended to by any government official. They later converged at the popular Olaiya junction, and barricaded the road.

The students disrupted vehicular movements for some minutes before taking their protest to the Government House.

Their spokesman, Lawal Musbau, who said they staged the peaceful protest to show their displeasure with the current strike in their school, demanded quick intervention of Governor Aregbesola.

They alleged that since the assumption of office of Governor Aregbesola and his Oyo State counterpart, Abiola Ajimobi, the university has witnessed crises and setbacks.

The students said the strike had exposed them to many social vices and also turned workers of the institution to beggars.
“After nine months strike embarked upon by various school unions due to the delay in payment of salaries, the governors are yet to be alive and active to their responsibilities as the joint owners of the university.

At the resumed protest yesterday, it took the intervention of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye before the students allowed the Deputy Governor, Titi Laoye -Tomori to address them.

She urged the students to be peaceful promising that their grievances would be attended to and permanent solution found to the university’s challenges by both Osun and Oyo state governments.
