Lagos waste authority to introduce new waste management method
The new Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr Abdulwahab Ogunbiyi, disclosed the new plans on Monday at a news briefing in Lagos.
“We want to design our own conveyor system with our engineers in the country in partnership with service providers of different professions to manage our waste, thereby making waste wealth,’’ he said.
Ogunbiyi said that waste characterisation would help to know the quantity and amount of plastic, nylon and organic in waste generated.
“Part of our new strategy is to use the waste characterisation to know the type of machines needed to treat organic waste and the capacity to handle the organic waste,’’ he said.
He also said that the authority was planning to know the exact waste per capital rather than use estimated amount.
“We also want to know and have a data base of waste per capital in the state.
“It has been an estimate used in Lagos which is not good for us as a state and as a mega city.
“We should be able to tell the world specifically that the quantity of waste generated per person with assurance.
“We should be able to have better treatment of waste hereby having the opportunity to improve waste management in the state,’’ Ogunbiyi said
