Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the endorsement of the standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Dr. Femi Hamzat, by 45 political parties in the state as their governorship candidate for the 2019 election as mere propaganda and demonstration of desperation.

A statement yesterday by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, said there was no concrete proof that 45 political parties actually endorsed Sanwo-Olu but a desperate efforts by the leadership of the APC to project its candidate known to be a bad market for the election.

The party said even if the APC ‘buys’ political parties beyond the registered ones in the country, its candidate would still not make any impact.

“The hurried and controversial emergence of the APC candidate was an indelible political albatross. ‘Indeed, the emergence is tainted with desperation to have someone as governor who will rather fund the APC leaders. Lagosians will not forget that this is the Lagos APC reason for dropping Ambode,” the statement said.

It further described Sanwo-Olu as an emergency candidate who is not prepared for the job compared to the PDP candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, who’s blueprint to free Lagos had been since 2006.

Meanwhile, state Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said the PDP’s structure in Lagos had completely collapsed leaving only Agbaje and erstwhile Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Chief Olabode George, who never sees eye to eye.

Igbokwe also appealed to the people of Lagos to vote Sanwo-Olu on the premise that Agbaje and PDP will not know where to start if elected.

He also implored non-indigenes, especially the Igbo in Lagos, to support APC.

However, former Commissioner for Works and governorship aspirant of the Lagos State Chapter of APC, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has been formally presented as the running mate to Sanwo-Olu for the 2019 elections.

Hamzat was presented by the party’s state Chairman, Mr. Tunde Balogun, during a media briefing in Lagos yesterday.

In another development, governorship candidate of Alliance for Democracy (AD) for 2019 election, Mr. Owolabi Salis, has flayed the ruling APC for creating poverty and making Lagos stagnant in terms of growth and development based on his poor policies.

Salis, who spoke on “Role of Government in Poverty Reduction in Nigeria” at a programme organised by Christian Ministers Welfare Initiative in Lagos yesterday, urged Lagos electorate to vote APC out of power for performing below expectation and not capable of driving development in the state.

He also flayed the APC for poor infrastructural development, especially road network, which he described as abysmally poor in the last 20 years.
