Lagos deputy governor wants women to be active in politics

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, has advised women to seek political positions and take advantage of policies aimed at stopping women trafficking and child abuse.

Also, the founder, Live Abundantly Empowerment Initiative (LAEI), Dr. Ama Onyerinma, advised the Federal Government to intensify its campaign on human rights.

They both spoke at the 2018 Symposium of LAEI, held at the University of Lagos.

Represented by the Director-General, Office of Quality Assurance, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, Adebule underscored the importance of women and children in the society, arguing that no society can thrive without policies targeted at women and children.

“Our government recognises this, and it explains why the welfare of women and children is one of the policy focus of our administration. As a government, we cannot alone guarantee individual right to live with dignity. We rely on the support of well-meaning individuals, corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations and human rights cum civil liberty agencies to up-the-ante by creating a society where rights of citizens are respected and upheld.”

She lauded LAEI for using its platform to complement government’s efforts at educating, enlightening and empowering women and children in various communities about rights and privileges.

Onyerinma said: “The purpose of this symposium is about human rights. We are living in a society where human right is like a privilege, but it is vital to the society and humanity.
