The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has asked the management of the state polytechnic, Ilorin, to reduce its current fees by N5, 000.

The governor gave the order yesterday on his Facebook page, following the controversies that had trailed the increase in the tuition fees.

He said the reduction was in recognition of the current economic challenges facing families in the country.

According to him, he had taken serious note of the concerns expressed by stakeholders in the state, including that of Senate President Bukola Saraki.

He said he was moved by the complaints that students, guardians and parents would not be able to pay the new fees, as announced by the management of the polytechnic for the 2017/2018 academic session.

He, however, observed that the polytechnic had not only maintained the fees charged in the 2016/2017 academic session, but it had also effected a reduction in the fees payable in the current academic session.

The governor lauded everyone who had intervened in the matter, adding that the Kwara State Polytechnic relies on tuiti fees to meet its obligations to students and workers.
