Kidnapping

The traditional wedding of Moses Yakubu was disrupted on Saturday as unknown gunmen abducted the bride and others a few hours to the engagement ceremony in Ondo State.

It was gathered that the victims were coming from Okene in Kogi State to Ondo when the incident occurred at Akunnu-Akoko, in Akoko North East council of the state.

The marriage ceremony was to be held at Aule Quarters in Akure but the incident threw the family members, friends and guests into mourning and unhappy mood.

It was however, learnt that the bride and her younger sister were released by the kidnappers shortly after their abduction, but the groom and two others were still held captive.

Father of the bride, Ahmed Amodu, told The Guardian that his daughter and her younger sister had been released, but the whereabouts of the son-in-law and two others were still unknown.

However, the Akoko axis in Ondo State has been notorious for abductions as some passengers plying the Owo-Ikare-Akoko road were kidnapped a few weeks ago.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and noted that policemen had been deployed to the scene of the crime to foil further abductions.

He assured that the command would do everything in its powers to rescue the victims, arrest the culprits and end the kidnap cases in Edo, Ondo and Kogi states.

He stressed that the new state Commissioner for Police, Gbenga Adeyanju, had put measures in place to check cases of kidnapping in the state.
