THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said Kano still remains top on the list of states with high number of illicit drugs trafficking in the country with the seizure of 12,362.87 kilograms of various harmful drugs in 2015.

Acting Chairman of the agency, Mrs. Roli Bode-George, stated this yesterday when she visited the Kano command of NDLEA.

Mrs. Bode-George, however, insisted that the agency is resolved to collaborate with other security agencies to rid Kano and other endemic states of drugs trafficking.

The NDLEA boss posited that the agency would soon launch a National Road Master Plan aimed at ensuring synergy with national and international organisations to upgrade the standard of the agency.

According to Mrs. Bode-George, the plan would equally entail enhancing intelligent gathering to arrest drug barons. She said henceforth the agency would confiscate the wealth of drug barons, saying such initiative will check their activities.

She commended Kano state government for establishing a joint taskforce on drugs trafficking, adding that the efforts were in line with Federal Government’s plans to partner relevant authorities on intelligence gathering in the fight against drugs traffickers in the country.

NDLEA Commander in Kano, Hamza Umar, earlier revealed that the command arrested 676 suspects of which 143 were convicted and 214 have their cases pending in various courts in the state. He said the command recovered €100,000 from a suspect who has been referred to the EFCC.
