KADUNA State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that his administration would spend about N9 billion yearly on free education and feeding of the over one million primary school pupils in the state.

El-Rufai stated this while addressing journalists after the state executive council meeting and retreat.

According to El-Rufai, about 5,000 tailors would be engaged to sew free uniforms, which would be distributed to pupils across the state. He described the free education introduced by the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in the state as “a fraud meant to exploit parents, as the programme was unsuccessful.”

Besides, the governor said Kaduna Geographical Information System bill has being sent to the State Assembly for legislation, pointing out that all landowners must have a land title.

El-Rufai further revealed that the 2016 budget would first be presented to the public for input before it is taken to the Assembly for legislation.

According to him: “We are President Muhammadu Buhari’s supporters in the state and we must work hard so that people who voted PDP out for APC will not be disappointed. All commissioners made presentations and we discussed extensively on quality service delivery to our people. We formed committees to monitor the implementation of our policies and programmes in the state.

“We have merged ministries. We took decision that some who have teaching qualification will go into teaching, some will strengthen the local council system. Nobody will lose his or her job as we merged the ministries.

“There was actually nothing like free education in Kaduna under PDP because parents were paying school fees, levies in our public schools. Under this administration, we have abolished school fees and all levies. We will provide free uniforms to all our children and we have also approved free quality meal in all public schools in Kaduna state.”
