IYC chairman wins Bayelsa Assembly ticket

Two feared dead as aspirants, youths protest in Yenagoa
The Central Zone Chairman, Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), Tare Porri, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the 2019 House of Assembly election in Ekeremor Constituency I.

Porri, who polled 26 votes, defeated the incumbent lawmaker, Ball Oyarede, who got 25 votes.

Meanwhile, two persons were feared dead and many injured as youths protested alleged imposition and unfair treatment at the primaries.

The angry protesters, comprising some of the aspirants and constituents, were said to have been tear-gassed by the police in a bid to disperse them for causing serious panic at the Bayelsa Government gate. Meanwhile, when contacted, the state Police Command Spokesman, Asinim Butswat, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident but promised to get back.
