Isoko leader urges warring communities to embrace peace

The President General of Isoko Development Union (IDU), Chief Iduh Amaidhem yesterday cautioned the people of Okpolo–Enwhe and Igbide communities, especially the youth to steer clear from the disputed land and embrace lasting peace.

He said this at a two-day leadership and peace building training, organised by Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta for Okpolo–Enwhe and Igbide communities over a protracted boundary dispute, at Ekpre Otoba Hall in Isoko South Local Council of Delta State.

Amaidhe commended organisers of the training even as he prayed God for successful deliberations and appealed to both communities for calm, urging them to embrace peace and stop killing innocent people.

He noted that beneficiaries of the training should disseminate the information in both communities, as Isoko leaders would soon adjust the boundary that would lead to a final settlement of the dispute.

The regent of Okpolo–Enwhe community, Chief Ikpawomuno Iroroke, urged his people and the Igbide Community to accept Amaidhe’s message of peace and appealed for lasting peace in both communities.

The head of personnel management, Isoko South Local Council, James kolo, who was represented by Collins Enigheno commended the organisers for the training even as he thanked the people of Okpolo–Enwhe and Igbide for the attendance.

He stated that nothing good comes from conflict and enjoined both communities to embrace peace and live as brothers and sisters who share a common boundary.

Presentations on peace building by Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta, were anchored by Olotu Oruke, Uzizi Agbor, Daki-prebor and Egedegbe Edewor, who stressed understanding peace building and leadership with communication skills, with emphasis on conflict handling.

The training was followed by interactive sessions, questions and answers, technical dialogue session and inauguration of partners for peace and new members.

The High point of the event was the signing of peace accord by representatives of both communities.
