IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu

For the umpteenth time, members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have called on the Federal Government to produce their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

During a meeting with Igbo leaders in Enugu yesterday, members of the proscribed organisation pledged to continue their discussions on peace, unity and reconciliation with government and relevant stakeholders.

This comes as the leaders agreed in principle to de-proscribe the activities of the group banned last year in the wake of the military operation Python Dance in the South East, during which some of its members were killed in a clash with soldiers at Umuahia and Aba in Abia state.

Yesterday’s meeting called by constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, in continuation of the earlier one held at Atani, Anambra State last Sunday, was attended by the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo; Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe; Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Diocese, Most Rev Anthony Obinna; former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi and erstwhile Presidential Adviser, Senator Ben Ndi Obi.

Others were President, AlaIgbo Development Foundation, Prof. Uzodinma Nwala; Prof. Elo Amucheazi; traditional rulers among others.

Germany-based lawyer, who led the IPOB team to the meeting, Aloy Ejimakor, later told reporters that they demanded Kanu’s whereabouts as part of the reconciliation with the Federal Government and Igbo leaders, especially the governors of the zone.
