Institute to partner ABU to address dearth in manpower in Insurance industry
The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) said it will partner with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to address the dearth of manpower in the insurance industry.
The newly elected Chairman, Kaduna State Chapter of the institute, Mr Olugbenga Ogunsanya stated this in Kaduna on Thursday shortly after being sworn in.
According to him, the insurance industry is faced with various challenges including shortage of manpower, particularly in northern part of the country.
“Therefore, we have concluded plans to partner with ABU where they are currently offering degree in insurance to make sure that the department is accredited by CIIN.
“We will give them material and all the support they need to produce quality insurance professionals to meet the manpower needs of the industry.
“By so doing, we would increase the number of insurance professionals in northern Nigeria starting from Kaduna and northern region at large”.
On insurance education, the chairman said the chapter will hold periodic sensitization and enlightenment programme on the gains of insurance for the general public.
“We will invite labour union, road transport workers, trade union, manufacturers and members of the public on the importance of insurance and various services available.
“We equally want the public to know the referral points whenever they have issues with their insurance claims to seek relief, “he said.
Ogunsanya also said that the chapter would carry out intensive coaching class for all registered practitioners for best practices.
He said the institute regulates the ethics and conducts of every insurance practitioner and determines the skills and knowledge required for anybody to practice in the industry.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report that also elected were Mr Doma Mohammed as Deputy Chairman; Hajiya BInta Usman as Treasurer; and Dayo Ogunsan as General Secretary.
Others are John Adeyemi as Education Secretary; Katuka Bobai as Auditor and Peter Yamai as Public Relation Officer.
