ILO, others to launch report on disability inclusion
A non-governmental organisation (NGO), These Abilities, in conjunction with indigenous gas company, Sahara Energy, International Labour Organisation (ILO), and the Lagos State Government would next week launch a report on the inclusion of people with disabilities in the Nigerian society.
Titled Of Crutches and Wings, the report documents how public and private organisations are transforming the lives of persons living with disabilities. Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo would on March 26 present the report.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, as part of activities lined up for the event, the executive director of “These Abilities”, Mr. Adeboye Abioye, said the presentation is part of efforts to call attention to the need to pass the Disability Rights Bill (DRB).
The bill, he said, is meant to provide protection and security for over 22 million disabled Nigerians, as well as, establish standards for the enforcement of their rights and privileges.
He noted that the disability inclusion report would serve as tool for all stakeholders including governments, civil society and corporate organisations to create the much desired enabling environment for persons with disabilities to a life of comfort and dignity.
