ABIA State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has directed his Chief of Staff, Chijioke Nwakodo, to visit the surviving victims of Sunday night’s accident at Ohiya Umuahia, along Umuahia-Aba Expressway, promising that government would pay their hospital bills.

The Abia Police Command has confirmed no fewer than 11 persons dead in the accident that involved a commercial bus and a loaded truck, while anonymous sources at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, disclosed that 22 victims were brought in alive. The source added that even the striking doctors rushed back to attend to them.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ezekiel Onyeke Udeviotu, confirmed that the bus was conveying people from a traditional marriage ceremony in Ohuhu to Asa in Ukwa, while the truck was heading towards Enugu, adding that the survivors were taken to the FMC while the dead were deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.
