Ibadan leaders allege threat to lives over support for Olubadan

Some Ibadan mogajis (family heads) have alleged threat to their lives over their support for Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, who is opposed to the review of Olubadan Declaration by the state government.

They, therefore, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to protect their lives from those they called “agents of death”.

The mogajis, who claimed that they had been receiving threat calls from anonymous people asking them to withdraw their support for Olubadan or risk being killed, said the callers had also asked them not to attend any meeting or visit the Popoyemoja palace of the traditional ruler.

The spokesman of the group, Chief Wale Oladoja, who addressed journalists yesterday in Ibadan, flanked by other executives of the forum, said: “Our lives are no longer safe here. And we begin to wonder what is our offence? For standing by the Olubadan to preserve our culture, traditional norms and values?

“Frequent anonymous calls from the people we suspect to be agents of death are threatening all of us, including the chairman, Mogaji Moshood Akere; the Vice Chairman, Mogaji Abass Oloko; the Co-ordinator, Mogaji Jelili Adanla; the Financial Secretary, Mogaji Ademola Olasomi and my humble self, to desist forthwith from going to Olubadan’s palace.

“You recall that about a month ago, some yet-to-be identified gunmen stormed the Popoyemoja palace and shot sporadically to disrupt the peace there.”
