THE Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele has dismissed a recent publication that she was arrested due to the crises in Ilaje Local Government Area.

Akindele appealed to journalists and other media practitioners in the country to always carry out proper investigations to garner their facts before publication.

The Speaker said she was surprised to hear that she was in police detention alongside the Clerk of the House, Mr. Bode Adeyelu over the purported investigation by the security personnel into the aforementioned crises.

According to her, there was never a time officers of the Nigeria Police came to the House to arrest anybody.

She said: “It is destructive to write such false reports and as an officer in the temple of justice, if others are acting illegally, I will not join them to do so and I will also not join issues with anybody.

Akindele who noted that though there is a matter already in the tribunal concerning the last election in her area, she stated that it is a civil case and it would be erroneous to bring crime into it.

Also present at the news conference was the Clerk of the House, one of those the report said was clamped into police custody.
