Hoodlums steal over N10m from ATM in Abakaliki
AN Automated Teller Machine (ATM) belonging to First Bank PLC at the College of Agricultural Science (CAS), Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, was broken into by hoodlums, who carted away over 10 million.
The attack came barely three weeks after robbers invaded the Simeon Oduoye female hostel and robbed the students of their belongings. The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chris Anyanwu, though he said the actual amount stolen was yet unascertained.
“Yes, (there was a robbery attack on the First Bank ATM at CAS) and the robbers carted away some money, but the actual amount stolen is not yet known,” he said.
According to him, “the robbers broke the ATM and carted away all the money inside. We are hearing different figures stolen but the bank’s officials have not given us any figure.”
However, he said that investigation has commenced, after which the agency could give the particular amount stolen. Sources told The Guardian that the hoodlums beat all security checks in the school and proceeded to the ATM, where they stole the said N10 million allegedly loaded not long ago.
