Chief Dr Hannah Dideolu AwolowoGov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has described Mrs Hanah Awolowo, the late wife of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as a “role model modern women should emulate toward a greater Nigerian society.’’

Lalong, in a condolence message to the Awolowo family over the demise of its matriarch, said that her life was a shining example to all, stressing that she was an embodiment of integrity, respect and dignity.

“On behalf of the government and people of Plateau, I join the president and the nation to mourn the demise of Mama Hannah Idowu Dideolu (HID) Awolowo,” he said in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr Emmanuel Nanle.

He said that the deceased would be greatly missed, pointing out that she was part of Nigeria’s journey to nationhood as a wife and companion of the late Awolowo, a democrat, who was the founder of Action Group (AG) in the 1960s and the UPN in the late 1970s .

“Her indelible imprints in the struggle made her husband to be celebrated and she can never be forgotten.

“In her special way, she kept the family name and sustained the democratic ideals that have characterised their political life,” he said.

The governor said that the people of Plateau mourn the exit of the deceased, but celebrate her life.

He condoled with the entire members of the Awolowo family, the family of the Vice President and the entire Yoruba nation and prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest.
