Wike, APC disagree over Don Waney’s sponsors

Unknown gunmen yesterday killed two police officers and abducted two Canadian nationals along the Kargako-Kafanchan road in Kaduna. The deceased police officers, who were detailed to provide security to the Canadians, were shot by the gunmen while on their way to Kafanchan to inspect a project being handled by their company.

A staff of the company said the Canadians, along with the two police escorts had left Kafanchan for Abuja through Kagarko when the gunmen ambushed them.“They came to Kafanchan to inspect a project, but on their way back, the gunmen ambushed and opened fire on them. The two policemen were killed instantly, while the Canadians were abducted,” he said.

However, the Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the incident that happened in Kagarko Local Council of the state. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Aliyu Muktar, told The Guardian that the security details attached to the foreigners were killed during a shootout between them and the kidnappers.

His words: “It happened yesterday around 7 pm as they were coming from Kafanchan to Abuja. As we speak, the police command is doing everything possible to save the abducted persons.

“The Commissioner of Police, Agyola Abeh, has directed the Assistant Commissioner Operations to immediately go there. The anti-kidnapping unit and other special task force have been dispersed to the area to mount surveillance.” Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the All Progressives Congress  (APC) have disagreed over the sponsors of the late serial killer and cultist, Johnson Igwedibia, alias Don Waney.

While the APC alleged that there were evidences that the governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) commissioned Don Waney to kill APC members in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Council, Wike said Waney’s reign of terror lasted throughout former Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s administration.Wike pointed out that he (Wanney) was eliminated as a result of his administration’s commitment to stamp out crimes and criminality from the state.

But APC’s spokesman in the state, Chris Finebone said the party’s claim was beyond the photographs Wike and his allies appear in with Don Waney.
Finebone added that the governor’s visit to ONELGA on Tuesday was because Waney, who he described as Wike’s points man, had been killed. He expressed hope that security agencies would soon unravel the truth and reveal the sponsors of the master killer.

While addressing Onelga residents, Wike said his administration would not be distracted by the political antics of the APC in Rivers, saying that the other cultists who had been declared wanted would be traced and brought to justice.

“Nobody should play politics with security of lives. Since we declared the cultists wanted, the APC has approached them to work for them. Whether or not they work with the APC, they will meet their Waterloo,” Wike stated.
