Gunmen yesterday abducted two German professors, Peter Breunij and Johannes Buringer, at Jenjela village in Kagarko Local Council of Kaduna State.

Breunij, an archaeologist from the University of Frankfurt, Germany, led a four-man team to the country to work on the relics of Nok culture.

They were said to be working in the site in collaboration with officials of the National Commission for Museum and Monuments.

An eyewitness account said the gunmen launched the attack from a bush, but did not abduct the two female members of the team.

“They shot into the air to frighten people away before abducting the two men. Two of the workers at the site, whose phones were snatched by the gunmen, pursued them into the bush, but were however shot by the gunmen.

He said the matter was reported to the police at Kagarko village. When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Usman Aliyu, promised to confirm the report.
