Groups seek support for Obaseki
C&CA holds free medical screening
A socio-political group, under the aegis of C & CA Initiative for Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shaibu, yesterday held free medical screening and treatment for patients, to garner support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A consultant virologist, Dr. Ephraim Ogbaini-Emovon, who was part of the medical team, commended the initiative and canvassed a coordinated rural-based health intervention scheme.
He said the screening, which took place in Benin City, Ekpoma and Igarra, would be incorporated into the health programmes of Obaseki if elected.
The group added that it was encouraged to initiate the screening because it was convinced it would fit into the promised agenda of Obaseki.
The free screening and treatment, which targeted under-privileged individuals focused on diagnosis and drugs distribution for common ailments like malaria, hypertension, diabetes and musculoskeletal problems among others.
In a related development, another group, the Edo Integration Group (EIG), which claimed to champion a better Edo State, urged the contestants to play by the rules and eschew violence.
A statement by its Publicity Secretary, Michael Eguaogie, also pledged support for Obaseki.
Egwaogie said: “Edo State is a pride to the black race and has been in the forefront of national struggles.”
The group is “proud of the socio-political contributions of eminent Edo people to the nation’s development, among whom were, Pa Michael Imoudu and Anthony Enahoro.”
The Publicity Secretary said the state therefore needs someone who can guarantee employment for young graduates, as well as the security of lives and property.
