Following the poor outing of female representation in the Buhari-led administration, gender activists have called for the full support and active participation of women in politics.

This according to them is to ensure that women’s voices are heard in the nation’s helm of affairs.

At a media parley organised by the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) and Voices for Change (V4C), the groups, said political participation of women in Nigeria has been largely through appointment, rather than election, as no woman has ever become an elected governor, president, vice president or senate president in the country.

According to the Executive Director, WARDC, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, the low level of women’s participation and representation in governance and political processes in Nigeria accounts for the abuse and discrimination Nigerian women suffer.
