Group tasks Buhari/Osinbajo on infrastructure

THE President, Men of Praise International Fellowship (MPIF), Mr. Tony Okafor has appealed to the Federal Government to embark on infrastructural development in the country, particularly the deplorable state of roads and poor electricity.
 
In a chat with The Guardian on the seventh yearly convention of the ministry, Okafor, along with the Chairman Central Planning Committee for the convention, Mr. Hillary Okere and the Spokesman of the organisation, Dr. Uche Enumah, urged President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to as a matter of urgency, commence massive rehabilitation and construction of federal roads with the aim of preserving lives, reducing accidents and time wasted during travelling hours “most of which are often caused due to the deplorable state of Nigeria roads.”
 
He said major roads such as Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos-Benin Ore Road, Ikorodu, Ogijo, Mosinmi, Shagamu Road, roads in the Eastern part and northern parts of the country were nothing but death traps that needed urgent attention.
 
Okafor said one of the reasons crimes was prevalent along major expressways “was the fact that criminals often took advantage of bad spots along those roads to attack helpless victims.”
 
The MPIF president also appealed to the government to take holistic action on the power generation in the country. Although he acknowledges the fact that some Nigerians have confessed to slight improvement in power generation in the last couple of days “government can still do more to improve on it to better the lots of Nigerians.”
 
According to him: “If necessary infrastructure are put in place and the enabling environment is provided by the government, Nigerians are not necessarily criminals, corrupt or people of low values, many resolve to criminality because of the hard situation and state of hopelessness in the country.”
 
He called on religious leaders to join the Buhari/Osinbajo- led administration in the ongoing war against graft, as he particularly charged church leaders on the need to emphasise on virtues and values in their sermons, saying: “The more preachers of the gospel place emphasise on values and virtues, I believe Nigerians will be more conscious, most especially those in public service.”
 
On the forth coming MPIF annual conference scheduled to take place in Port Harcourt from Thursday August 20 to Sunday 23, Okere, said the ministry is expecting a large turn of faithful across the globe “the event is designed to transform lives, strengthen MPIF family bond and to celebrate our King-the Lord Jesus Christ. It will impact the society, attract more families into the King’s household and stir the family potentials and responsibilities. The event promises to be rich, fulfilling and impacting.”
