A COALITION of civil society organisations working on maternal, newborn and child health in Zamfara State has advocated for one per cent levy out of all capital project contract to be awarded by Zamfara State government, and be dedicated to state health sector.

This was contained in a one-page communiqué signed by the coalition’s chairman subcommittee on nutrition, Alhaji Lawali Isah Bungudu, and issued to journalists. The statement said the fund is necessary for the effective implementation of National Health Act in the state.

Commending government for improving the structures of some health facilities in the state, the group decried the low release of yearly health funds budgeted and approved to the state health sector.

The statement believed that when one per cent of contract levy is approved to the health sector as enjoined by state education sector, adequate funds would be flowing to address catalogues of problems in the health sector.
