Gov. Ahmed wants end to child abuse in Nigeria

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has called on Nigerians to stop all forms of child abuse and other violence against children.
Ahmed made the call on Friday in Ilorin on the occasion of this year’s Children Day celebration.

The governor, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Abdulwahab Oba, noted that a society that subjects its youngsters to abuse is in jeopardy.

Ahmed noted that the theme of this year’s event, “Protect the Right of Children in the Face of Violence and Insecurity: End Child Marriage”, was apt.

He therefore called for more commitment by various stakeholders for proper upbringing of children, especially in the areas of values of respect for self discipline and dignity.

The governor noted the society must ensure that the Nigerian child, especially the girl child, should live in a peaceful atmosphere conducive for growth and well being, rather than insecurity.

Ahmed admonished Nigerian children to strive for excellence in all their endeavours.

He also called on parents and guardians to instil religion and moral discipline in their children and wards so that they could be better members of the society.

The governor assured children in the state that his administration remained committed to their welfare through children friendly policies and programmes, in spite of the prevalent economic challenges.

“Today, and, indeed, the future belong to the youths of this nation,” the governor said.
