God hasn’t put any political ambition in my heart, says Alakija
Business tycoon and one of the richest women in Africa, Folorunso Alakija, has revealed that she has no desire to be involved in politics, as God hasn’t called her into politics.
During her visit to Rutam House, headquarters of The Guardian in Lagos, yesterday, Alakija said, “Politics is not my calling. God hasn’t called me to it and I have no interest. I don’t do things anyhow; I usually allow God speak to me before taking any step and he hasn’t spoken to me regarding politics.
People have been writing letters to me, calling me and telling me to pursue governorship seat or even a Vice President position but I simply tell them the Lord hasn’t put that in my heart. Unless God changes his mind and speaks to me directly, I wouldn’t run for office.”
On if she would support and encourage women that want to run for office, she said, “Of course. Not only because I am a woman but also, this is what Flourish Africa is mostly about. We support women in any and every capacity, with our Rose of Sharon Glorious Ministry, widow’s training, empowering and lifting women and so on.”
Thanking The Guardian for its continued support, she congratulated women on the celebration of another women’s day; and urged the government to actively support women, not just in word but also with deeds.
