The 23-year-old attacker had stabbed his 27-year-old flatmate in the hand and arm on Saturday during a fight in the city of Bonn, before fleeing to the building’s second floor.

Police surrounded the building and tried to speak with the man.

The situation escalated when the man jumped out of a window and ran toward police armed with two knives.

According to the spokesman, authorities tried to hinder him with pepper spray before shooting him in the arm and shoulder. The man was taken to the Bonn University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police said he was in a stable condition. However, the spokesman gave no details about the background of the attack.
