Gang war claims 13 lives in Rivers community

About 13 persons have lost their lives, following unabated cult activities in communities of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that suspected cultists have been raging fresh battle in the areas since Sunday and yesterday (Thursday) evening, where about 13 persons were said to have been murdered in Omoku and Obrikom.

A member of the community, identified as Felix, who fled Omoku headquarters yesterday, said he witnessed the killing of six by the gangsters.

He disclosed that some schools in the area have been forced to shut down due to the ugly development.

He also lamented that some persons were beheaded.

The source maintained that there had been sporadic shootings in the areas, particularly in Omoku.

Another source who does not want to be mentioned said seven persons had been killed in Obrikom, a neighbouring community to Omoku.

The source, said people have started deserting the busy Omoku town and other neighbouring communities for fear of reprisal attacks.

Also, according to the source, the gunmen invaded Obrikom community in the night and overpowered youths and policemen earlier drafted to guard the town before the Wednesday incident.

“Obrikom is now a ghost town as residents have deserted the town following rumours. Of more killings there by the suspected cultists”, the source said.

Meanwhile, the State Police Public Relation Officer, Ahmed Mohamed is yet to confirm the killings; his phones were not reachable and a text message sent to him was not replied, as at time this report was filed.
