Ganduje escapes robbery attack
Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s convoy escaped a deadly ambush by daredevil armed bandits along the Abuja- Jos highway.
The governor and his entourage, including the press crew stumbled on the barricade set up by the armed robbers at midnight of Thursday around the dense forest and rocky hill along the quiet Jos road.
Director General on Media to the governor, Malam Saliu Tanko Yakasai, who confirmed the attack to journalists, said the situation was brought under control while the governor and his entourage continued their journey.
An eyewitness told The Guardian that the incident, which led to heavy shoot out between the security personnel attached to the governor’s convey and the bandits lasted hours.
“It took the intervention of Mobile policemen and members of Department of Security Service attached to the governor to save the situation.
“We observed that the pilot car leading the convoy slowed down and there was a road block mounted by robbers. It was late into the night and suddenly the mobile Police opened fire on the robbers, while the DSS and other police men in the convoy later joined in the shooting till the robbers scampered away,” the source narrated.
