Over two thousand indigent people were attended to during the annual two-day free medical outreach for Umuahia residents by the Hannah May Foundation (HMF), a non-governmental organisation founded by Lady Mercy Odochi Orji, the wife of the immediate past governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji.

The beneficiaries were cared for in two centres at Umuobasi and Ndume halls by a team of medical personnel comprising doctors, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists and laboratory technologists.

Chairman, HMF Board of Trustees, Barrister Augousto Kanu, said patients whose ailments could not be handled during the outreach would be referred to appropriate medical institutions at HMF expense.

One of the doctors, Okechukwu Udeala, said six persons would undergo eye surgeries. Over 400 eyeglasses were given out.

He called on wealthy Nigerians and organisations to emulate HMF.
