Former Legislator sues for peace in Rivers

Mr Chidi Amadi, a former member of Rivers House of Assembly has called on political stakeholders in the state to resolve their differences and move the state forward.

Amadi, a member of the third assembly, (SDP-Obio/Akpor Constituency II), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that the time for blame game had gone.

“ Rivers state is in dire need of peace, this state needs to move forward .

“The essence of politics, elections and democracy is to ensure that the welfare of the people is met.

“ The focus of all politicians, irrespective of the party, is to see how to entrench peace in our state and move it forward,” he said.

Amadi, now an educationist, said there was need for all sides in the polity to meet and ensure peace for the state to meet her development needs.

“ Peace cannot be engendered by an individual; it requires deliberate and conscious efforts from all sides.

“It is no more time to continue the blame game , it is time for us to ensure that peace returns to our state,” he said.

The former legislator said events preceding the re-run legislative polls heightened tension in the state, stressing that it had now been overtaken by recent events.

According to him, every stakeholder should put the state first above personal interest, because the state needs economic growth, engagement of youths and inflow of investors.

Amadi also said that peace and stability were key to the economic growth of the state.
