FG to revamp commission on secondary education to tackle falling standard

Concerned about the poor performance of secondary schools students, especially in the unity colleges, the Federal Government has concluded plan to revamp the Secondary School Commission to address the issue.

Concerned about the poor performance of secondary schools students, especially in the unity colleges, the Federal Government has concluded plan to revamp the Secondary School Commission to address the issue.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, gave the hint in a chat with journalists while receiving the management and students of the Nigeria-Tulip International College (NTIC), who won laurels in various international academic competitions.

Adamu also re-iterated the commitment of the Federal Government to probe the cause of the death of three female students of Queen’s College, Lagos. He assured that those responsible would be prosecuted.

The awards, which were in various categories, were won between 2016 and this year.They included International Mathematics Challenge, where Nigeria won five gold, three silver and three bronze medals in Thailand; World Scholars Cup in essay competition 2017 in Dubai where Nigeria won one gold and three silver medals.

Others are the International Festival of Language and Culture, Turkey last year where Nigeria won six gold, two silver and four bronze medals,
International Geometry Olympiad in Iran in 2016 where Nigeria won one silver and three bronze medals and the Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) in Senegal, last year, where Nigeria won one silver medal.

Adamu, who lauded the contributions of NTIC to educational development in the country, however, challenged the management of the institution to focus more on science and technology.
