For demonstrating great vigour in nurturing and educating young ones, an English Language teacher from Government Day Secondary School, Karu, Abuja, Olasunkanmi Samuel Opeifa, has emerged as this year’s Maltina Teacher of the Year.

Opeifa’s choice on Thursday night at Muson Centre, Lagos, among 25 other teachers that emerged as state champions, brought the year-long quest for the best teacher in Nigeria to a glorious end. 

For the victory, Opeifa won N1million cash prize, in addition to N500, 000 he received as state champion from Abuja. He would also get N1million every year for the next five years and a block of six classrooms built at the school where he teaches.

A Computer Studies teacher from Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Olalekan Adeeko, emerged the first runner-up, while Samuel Temitope Popoola, a Physics teacher with Deeper Life High School, Akure, Ondo State, won the second runner-up position.

Apart from the N500, 000 reward received as state champions, the duo also won additional N1million and N750, 000, respectively. 

All the 26 state champions received a cash prize of N500, 000 for emerging the best teacher in their various states.

Opeifa, in his remarks, commended the Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc for the amazing gesture and enjoined other corporate organisations to follow the worthy example.
