Fayose Declares Ogoga Paramount Ruler Of Ikere-Ekiti

Ekiti State Government yesterday declared Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Samuel Adu Alagbado, as the paramount ruler of the ancient town. The declaration has put to an end the age long kingship rivalry between Ogoga and the Olukere, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin.

Governor Ayodele Fayose, who spoke at the commissioning of a new ultramodern palace built by the new Ogoga, who ascended the throne of his forefathers exactly 202 days ago, said Oba Adu remains the only recognised monarch in the town.

Before Adu ascended the throne, there had been a long-standing rivalry between the past Ogogas and the Olukeres leading to violent clashes and court cases between the two parties.

Obasoyin, who has not been officially recognised as monarch by the state government, claimed that his throne was the first in Ikere; hence he should be given the staff of office, a request declined by the government.

But Fayose, who spoke through the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola, who is an indigene of the town, shortly before the palace was commissioned, declared that Ikere has one monarch and the Ogoga is the head of the kingdom.

Alluding to the rivalry with Olukere, which the Ogoga described as unwarranted distraction, Adu urged the people of the community to join hands with him to uplift the community in Ekiti land.
