Fayemi to back winner of APC ticket

The Minister for Mines and Steel Development and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, yesterday, formally declared for the governorship of Ekiti State, even as he vowed to support whoever is voted as the party’s candidate in the primary election slated for May 5 this year.

The former governor said aspirants must unite to reclaim the lost mandate from Governor Ayodele Fayose-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayemi, who stated this at the APC secretariat in Ado Ekiti during his formal declaration cautioned aspirants against using abusive words, hate speech and indecent language against one another, saying it is not acceptable, just as it’s not the APC brand. He urged party leadership to come up with a code of conduct for aspirants to guide their conducts during electioneering campaign.

He disagreed with claim by the Ekiti State government about success recorded in the National Examination Council (NECO), where the state came first in two consecutive times. He said his government laid the foundation, as the students that recorded the feat were already in Senior Secondary School in 2014, when his tenure ended.

The former governor said he is not in the race for personal benefit, as he is contented with his current office, but added that he came on a rescue mission to liberate the people from their untold hardship brought about by the ruling PDP in the state.

Calling other aspirants to order on the use of foul language against one another, Fayemi said: “We must restrategise and use all the powers that God has given us to free our people from these selfish people. Whoever we voted for in the primary is who I will support. I am a loyal party man.”
