Chief Nike Akande, Erelu Bisi Fayemi and South-West Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Kemi Nelson, have called for increase in the budget allocation of Ministry of Women Affairs at both federal and state levels.

Speaking at the 2017 Women Leaders Summit organised by Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center (WARDC) in Lagos, the trio said increasing the budget of Ministry of Women Affairs will increase women capacity development and make the ministry more effective in meeting the needs of Nigerian women.

Akande who is currently the President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the budget for the Ministry of Women Affairs is always small compared to other ministries, while Fayemi said increasing the budget is crucial for the provision of technical and material resources to empower women in various communities.

Nelson, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs added that sitting at the top of the ministry before and allocating poor resources to Ministry of Women Affairs has always been an issue and strongly believes that there should be increase for the ministry.
