Expect more harassment from Buhari’s government, Biafra Zionists tell Ekweremadu

The Biafra Zionists Federation (BZF) yesterday condemned what it called needless harassment of Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.

It, however, said the lawmaker should prepare for more harassment from the Federal Government as much as he believes in the present structure of the country and refusing to join in the struggle for Biafra Independence.

The self-acclaimed President of the BZF, Mazi Benjamin Onwuka, while addressing journalists in Enugu, alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari was unrepentant in his handling of affairs concerning Ndigbo, saying that the BZF was grieved on the travails Ekweremadu was passing through.

He said: “We have been telling our people that Biafra is the only way out, and you know very well that this Ike Ekweremadu and all the senators have been opposed to Biafra.

“However, we condemn the harassment. I am speaking as a Biafran, as an Igbo man. He is my brother.

So, we condemn what is happening to him. I am assuring him that we are supporting him, we are behind him but we differ politically..

“He must stand firm and know that so long as he is in the entity called Nigeria, this government, which does not think well of our people, will keep harassing him.

But nothing will happen to him, we have conquered. Ekweremadu belongs to the Zionists as well. We are inviting him to join us, we are one.”

Meanwhile, Ekweremadu has assured his supporters that his current travails in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government would end in praise.

He said he had absolute faith in God, as he had done nothing wrong to warrant the continued harassment by the security agencies and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

So, what you are seeing now will also pass because there is no battle that God cannot fight for me.
 
“There have been several attempts to remove me as the Deputy President of the Senate, but I am not worried because it is God who gives power and it is only Him that can take it.”
 
He said he had never been in a position to manage public finances or award contracts all through his political career.

Besides, Ekweremadu, who said he had no personal quarrel with anyone, wondering why the desperation to annihilate him politically, said: “In all my statements, my position on things that have happened in Nigeria, I have always meant the best for Nigeria. I have never, for once, personally attacked anybody, including the President.
 
“I have been worried about the security situation and the injustice that is accompanying the programmes of the government.

Those are the issues I have always addressed and I have tried to be as objective as possible.
 
“So, why the government or its agencies or the party that is in power feels that I am a threat is what I don’t understand. For as long as you are in government, you are supposed to be democratic.
 
“I don’t have one personal problem with anybody, but because of my position on some of these things, people have tried to kill me.”
