Enugu to host World Igbo Congress

Enugu State will play host to Ndigbo from all corners of the globe to foster unity and oneness of purpose among the Igbo ethnic group.

The Public Relation Officer of the World Igbo Congress (WIC), Basi Onwukwe, said the summit that would be held on May 27, 2017 at Ascort Resort Hotel, Enugu, from 9am-7pm was to discuss way forward in the face of organised hostility towards the Ndigbo.

He said the summit has brought Ndigbo from all corners of the globe to discuss restructuring Nigeria to accommodate Indigenous people of Biafra, protecting the tribe from internal slavery.

He said: “World Igbo Congress assembled some of Igbo best to lead the discussions covering Igbo Unity, Restructuring Nigeria to resolve the quest for Biafra, Igbo Isolationism, defining Igbo political frontiers for a secure Igbo land and other related topics.”

Onwukwe said in a determined effort to ensure that the Igbo youths participate in the discussions and dialogue, WIC has concluded arrangements to bring about 250 students from high institutions from all Igbo speaking areas of Igbo land to the summit venue in Enugu.

He said to restore the dignity of the Igbo, WIC would be honoring five Igbo pacesetters that have excelled in diverse fields of endeavor, with “Life Time Achievement Awards”. They include, Prof Michael Echeruo, Prof Anya O Anya, Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe, Engr. Arthur Eze, and Dr. Joe Nwodo.

The guest of honour is the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Ikeoha Ndigbo; special guests are governors from the Southeast, royal fathers and Ohaneze Ndigbo chieftains. The Summit Chairman is Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu.

Discussants and panelists include, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Prof Pat Utomi, Rear Admiral Alison Madueke, Mr. Peter Obi, Prof Ben Nwabueze, Senator Enyinaya Abaribe, Senator Ben Obi Ojeligbo, Archbishop Maxwell Anikewenwa and Archbishop Anthony Obinna, among others.
