A group in Edo State, Esan Peoples Renaissance Union, has launched a vigilance body to check herdsmen’s attacks and insecurity.

Chairman of the union, Joel Aidemebor, said the group called Esan Ohue Vigilante, would collaborate with security agencies to check criminal activities in the area.

He disclosed this at Uromi, in Esan North East Local Council of the state.

Aidemebor said the group would address the incessant killings, kidnappings, assassinations, armed banditry, raping and destruction of lives and property in the area.

According to him, the myriads of security challenges in Esanland were complicated and demand stakeholders’ collaboration.

He explained that the vigilance group would be involved in community policing and assisting security agencies to nip crimes in their buds.

The chairman stressed that the body would tackle the murderous activities of criminals in the area to ensure the safety of lives and properties in the 51 wards in the area.

He said: “Esan People Renaissance Union (EPRU) is a non political organisation that has chosen to be the community watchdog.

It would collaborate with the Nigeria Police in protecting the people against incessant killings, kidnappings, assassinations, armed banditry and rape.”

Its other areas of focus include protection against destruction of lives and properties, farmlands, cash crops and other legitimate means of livelihood in various communities in Esanland.
