Edo assembly speaker explains workers audit
The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Justin Okonoboh, yesterday said the proposed workers screening in the legislative chamber is not meant to sack or witch-hunt anyone.
Okonoboh made the clarification during plenary where he explained that the exercise is meant to determine the number of workers on the payroll of the House.
He assured that the outcome of the audit would be used for planning purposes, noting that a similar exercise was done before and it did not affect anyone. He urged the workers to remain calm and go about their duties.
The house in plenary also resolved to probe a petition from Ekiadolor chapter of the colleges of education staff union on cases of wrongful retirement of its members.
Also being investigated is a petition over alleged non-payment of allowance by midwives in the service of the state government.
Okonoboh referred the petitions to the House standing committees on Education and Health with the mandate to report back within two weeks for legislative action.
