DPR fines, seals six stations
Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has fined six filling stations the sum of N1million each in Kano for allegedly violating its earlier seal sanction. Also, the affected stations whose identities and locations were not disclosed had been placed under maximum closure for six months.
DPR stated that no fewer than 90 stations in Kano and Jigawa had also received various penalties between December 1, 2017 and February 13, 2018. More than 60 per cent were sealed in Kano.
Briefing journalists, the operations manager, Kano-Jigawa operations of DPR, Alhaji Buba Abubakar said the effected marketers were being sanctioned for diverting the scarce products, under-dispensing, fragrant disregard of regulations and selling their products above the approved pump price.
The DPR boss who said that Kano and Jigawa states are grossly under supplied the premium motor spirit (PMS), however, denied alleged connivance with the marketers to fuel the protracted scarcity.
“On whether we are monitoring those selling above price, we have monitoring team with NNPC and also we have our own team with DSS. We visit the stations and make sure they comply with the regulations but you know we cannot be everywhere.
Also we have intelligent reports that the marketers monitor our teams and the moment they notice we are around they start dispensing,” Buba said.
