Kogi West women, yesterday, warned Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, the chief of staff, Edward Onoja and Ijumu Local Government chairman, Taofiq Isah, not to inflict any harm on Senator Dino Melaye, else they face their wrath.

Speaking during a protest rally at the senator’s country home in Ayetoro Gbede, the women said Melaye has been fighting their cause, workers’ and pensioners’ rights. They spoke against the backdrop of an assassination attempt on Melaye on the eve of Easter.

Even though the Government, through the Special Adviser on security, Jerry Omodara, had warned against the protest, the women went ahead to make their statement yesterday.

The placard-carrying women said though they have been practising politics in Okun land, but never experienced politics of assassination.

Expressing appreciation to the women, the Senator said: “Nothing will distract my attention from fighting the cause of the common man. I will continue to speak for the talakawas and the mekunus. The Lord will deliver us from the misfortune called Yahaya Bello in Lokoja.

“He got over N20b from Bailout funds. The Federal Government, through Muhammadu Buhari gave the fund for payment of salaries and pension arrears, but the money wasn’t used for the purpose.

“After that, God provided again through the Paris Club, and Kogi got N11b, but still they have not paid workers.”
