Following the alleged serial killings in the farm of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae and parts of Ondo State by suspected herdsmen, the indigenes have warned that the menace, if left unchecked, could result in pogrom.

The Asiwaju of Akure kingdom, Prof. Olu Agbi, at a press conference yesterday on behalf of the community, decried the cult clashes that recently claimed 10 lives within the metropolis.

He said: “Apart from the killings by the secret cult members, there were reports of kidnapping, attacks and killing of farmers by herdsmen among other heinous crimes. Some crimes, including armed robbery and ritual killings, have not gone unnoticed by the community.”

He alleged that since his release, Falae’s farm at Ilado in Akure North Local Council of the state as well as his life had been subjected to recurrent attacks.

Agbi went on: “Apart from killing people in his farm, neighbouring farms have been subject of attack by these gun-wielding herdsmen. We call on the security agencies to protect the life and property of Chief Falae.

“We are making this appeal not only because he is an Akure chief but to prevent a tribal war as the Olu of Ilu Abo’s status transcends Akure and Yoruba.

“We warn the herdsmen not to create an opportunity for a civil war because any further attack on Chief Falae or his farm would be deemed as casus-belly.”

Agbi noted that the criminal activities have been giving the indigenes a serious concern, adding that the peace and hospitality of the kingdom had been breached.

“However, our accommodating nature has been taken for granted as members of the secret cults, most of who are not indigenes of our community, have unleashed terror on the residents with reckless abandon.

“Apart from the killing of hapless people, these secret cult members have made residents to live in fear of either being attacked or caught in the ensuing melee. This, we insist, must stop,” the former Ambassador to Greece added.
