Dental association, Pepsodent walk to advocate oral hygiene practices

The Nigeria Dental Association (NDA) and other stakeholders yesterday held Oral Health Walk at Ikeja, Lagos.The event, which was to mark this year’s World Oral Health Day (WOHD), was in partnership with a leading toothpaste brand, Pepsodent Nigeria.

With the theme Say Ahh: think mouth, think Health’, the health walk, the walk started from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and ended at the Johnson Jakande Tinubu Park, Alausa, Ikeja.Notable celebrities, actors and social personalities participated in the walk. They included Kaffy, Odunlade Adekola, Fathia Balogun, Muyiwa Ademola, Ruth Kadiri, Shredder Gang and August Secrets.ng.

Others were health professionals, students, banks’ and Unilever Nigeria’s employees. Speaking at the event, Category Manager, Oral Care, Unilever Nigeria, Toluwaleke Salu, said tooth decay is a global widespread disease.which affects three out of five children, and almost all adults.

Also, President of the NDA, Dr. Bode Ijarogbe, said with the growing rate of tooth decay, the walk was intended to promote worldwide awareness of issues surrounding oral health.

On the need to prevent tooth decay, which is the world’s most widespread, chronic disease; the toothpaste brand used the walk to canvass the adoption of good oral care habits, including brushing twice daily (morning and night) with fluoride toothpaste.

Salu said: “Pepsodent remains committed to improving the oral health of 10 million Nigerian children by 2020. This is through the Pepsodent ‘brush day and night’ Schools Programme, where we educate kids on the importance of brushing morning and night.”
