Delta police arrest undergraduate for allegedly doping female student

policeTHE Delta State Police Command during the weekend announced the arrest of a male undergraduate of the Delta State University Abraka over the allegation of poisoning a 17- year-old female student.

The police spokesperson, Celestina Kalu, explained in Asaba that the local Police Station at the university town had received a report last Wednesday that the culprit, Mr. Bassey Aniakan, a student of the institution, gave a piece of cake to another female student of the same institution, and that after eating it, the victim started to behave abnormally.

Kalu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the victim was consequently rushed to the hospital and admitted for treatment. She said Bassey confessed during interrogation that he laced the ingredients used in baking the cake with marijuana.

Kalu said investigation was still ongoing, adding that six armed robbers had also been arrested by the police for robbing a tricylist, Mr. Tubosun Elegbeleye of his vehicle marked UWN 330 QC at gun-point last week Thursday by a three man gang.

Sequel to the report, the spokeswoman said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team of detectives and arrested Nduka Enuma, 26, Ojonomaro Ejeita, 23, Mamuyom Godwin, 24, Akpoture Godday, 28, OnoriodeObokwo, 20 and Mudiaga Obokwo, 24.

She disclosed that items recovered from the culprits include the snatched tricycle, a locally made cu- to-size barrel gun and five live cartridges, noting that investigation is in progress.
