DELSU gets new lease of life as govt undertakes facility upgrade

… Okowa inspects Sapele Market 

DELTA State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has announced that the state government has made the accreditation of the Faculty of Engineering at Delta State University (DELSU) Oleh Campus a priority.

The governor, who disclosed on Wednesday while addressing students of the faculty during an inspection tour, stated that he came to see the situation on ground to enable him know how to address the issues militating against the accreditation of the faculty. “ I came to see the situation of things on ground because l know that there are issues that need to be addressed before the faculty will be accredited by Nigeria University Commission (NUC).

l am pleased with the level of discipline among you (students) and assure you that we will speed up the process of accreditation by meeting up with the standard given us,” the governor said.

Senator Okowa informed the students  that he has directed the contractors handling the infrastructural projects in the school to return to site and ensure that the projects were completed on time, adding that he has also ordered that the contract file be moved from the Ministry of infrastructure to Education to ensure proper monitoring of the projects.

Okowa disclosed that he has invited the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University, Prof. Peretemonde and the School Provost, Prof. Benjamin Okagba to a meeting on Monday, September 14, to discuss how to speed up the accreditation process, stressing that: “ engineering is one of the faculties that equip our youths with skills to be self-reliant rather than depend on government for job after graduation.”

The governor emphasised that his administration would give priority to areas where youths would acquire skills to empower themselves.

In a related development, Okowa inspected on-going construction work at Sapele Market and assured the traders the market would be completed in no distant time and the stall properly allocated to them.

He directed the local council chairman to refund the money already collected from the traders for allocation of the stalls, saying: “ Proper allocation of the over 1,600 market stalls would be done when the market is completed”.
