The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) have certified 234 communities in Boki area of Cross River Open Defecation Free (ODF).

UNICEF representative, Mr. Sam Itodo spoke to the communities on the importance of sustaining the achievement and not to go to sleep.

Director General, Cross River State, RUWASSA, Mr. Ita Ikpeme, commended the communities for attaining ODF, as it not only helps to have a decent, clean and odourless environment, but also helps to improve the health status of members of the communities.

On her part, the State Secretary to the Government (SSG), Tina Agbor, assured UNICEF that before the end of the year, communities not yet certified would have become ODF.

The Chairman of Boki Local Government Council, Daniel Ochui, pledged that, by August, Boki Local Government would attain LGA-Wide Open Defecation Free status.
