Court remands 13 for Lagos, Ogun banks’ robberies

A magistrate’S court sitting in Ebute-Metta has remanded 13 armed robbery suspects, who were alleged to be the masterminds of several bank robberies in Lagos.

A magistrate’s court sitting in Ebute-Metta has remanded 13 armed robbery suspects, who were alleged to be the masterminds of several bank robberies in Lagos State between March 2015 and March 2016.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.I Adelaja, ordered they should be remanded in prison custody yesterday following an application filed by Mr. A. Eno-Edobor, Chief Superintendent of Police, the Officer-in-Charge of legal department of Lagos State Police Command, and Goddey Osuyi.

The suspects are: Clement Abanara, 42; Dennis Njoku, 30; Ebi Blessing, 28; Sunday Olotu, 33; John Sabajoh, 35; Idowu Sobijoh, 32; Ainriyemipate Joseph Wisdom, 27.

Others are: Opeyemi Balogun, 32; Olamilekan Morounkeji, 32; Ayodeji Fanimeye, 40; Mike Adebayo, 57; Monsuru Ahmed Adisa, 46 and Daniel Ukaeju, 50.

The prosecutor informed the court that all the 13 suspects took part in bank robberies which happened in Lagos and Ogun states between March 2015 and March 2016.

In his application seeking remand of the suspects, both Edobor and Osuyi told the court that the application was brought pursuant to Section 264(1) and (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice of Lagos State, 2011.

They further informed the court that the remand application is supported with a nine-paragraph affidavit deposed to by one Dele Ojo Odunnayo of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the command.

Magistrate Adeleja therefore ordered that all the 13 armed robbery suspects be remanded in prisons custody till May 11.

Also, she ordered the police to duplicate the suspects’ case files and forward it to the office of DPP for advice.

In the nine-count charge attached with the remand application, the police alleged that all the 13 suspects took part in banks’ robberies that occurred in Festac, Ikorodu and Lekki areas of Lagos State, and Agbara in Ogun State.
