Court orders 80-year-old man be remanded for arson, land grabbing
A Lagos Magistrate Court in Igbosere has ordered the remand of an 80 year old man, Habbib Ajibawo, in prison custody, over allegations of arson, attempted murder, threat to life, land grabbing and breach of public peace.
The men of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID) Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, approached the court presided over by Chief Magistrate O. Oshin through a remand application against Ajibawo over the alleged offences.
Counsel to the FCIID, Morufu Animashaun, in the remand application stated that Ajibawo and others now at large, conspired among themselves to commit offences bordering on malicious damage, attempted murder, arson, assault, threat to life, conduct likely to breach of peace, forceful takeover of lands in the entire lpaja Area, in lpaja-Ayobo Local Government Development, Lagos State.
The FCIID also stated before the court that reasons for applying for the remand of the man are that he was arrested at a place with exhibits which includes offensive weapons, his confessional statement and that victims identified him.
Counsel to the suspect, O. Monye, pleaded with the court not to grant the remand application, rather the court should consider the age of his client and grant bail in the most liberal terms.
However, in her ruling, presiding magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N250, 000, with one surety in same like sum.
